Although its a well known cause of S38 failure, the only available replacement I'm aware of is the stock OEM BMW part. If the chain tensioner is replaced when it begins to fail, I'd trust the stock plastic guide up to 100k mile. But, after that, it becomes very, very brittle.Greg K
I've heard it's prudent to replace your timing chain before reaching the 150k milestone.I've also heard(usually from sellers of 115k-170k M5s)"Oh,I had that checked & it looks fine.so I left it alone." What's the real deal
Greg,is there an upgrade for the cheap-arssed $5.00 plastic chain guides?
Thanks for the info everyone.
