I had the same problem. I removed the header and took it to a welding shop (not a muffler shop) and they welded it for me for $20.00 if memory serves me correct.

That was many years ago and it hasn't leaked since.

I've since learned to weld and have repaired the same joint on another e-28 M5. My weld wasn't as pretty but again, it's still holding up.

If you're removing the headers yourself, a 1/4 drive ratchet sure makes things easier (gets in the tight spaces a 3/8 can't.)

You might want to purchase new exhaust nuts ahead of time too as the old ones may be beginning to round off if the headers have been off a few times before.

I wouldn't waste my money with new exhaust gaskets though. When you see how the old ones are made, you'll know why.
