to spew $30 of Mobil 1 on the driveway!
Ask me how I know :^)
Word of advice, don't use Bosch filters.

You can do it without lifting the car. Need a 17mm socket and preferably a torque wrench. I find that the filter drain nipple only drains if I also loosen the central filter bolt some as well. A length of plastic tubing that fits over the nipple and leads to your drain pan makes everything more tidy. One word of caution - make sure the filter housing seats properly before you tighten the bolt. It is possible for it to seat wrong, and then oil will spew everywhere when you start it up (not that I know personally ;-) - if you can spin it freely and feel the o-ring squish while tightening it is seated properly.

I'm going to be changing the oil and oil filter soon and was wondering if there are any things to look out for. I have never performed a filter change on these types of filters. Which bolt(s) do I need to remove to get to the filter element? I've got the Bentley manual for the E28, but it was not very clear. I feel like a nimrod even asking this, but I want to make sure I don't screw anything up. There are several bolts on the filter housing and I don't want to remove the wrong one(s).

Thanks!

Sean
