One other thing. If your refrigerant is OK (you should really get it checked by a shop with the proper gauges), check is the heat shield that should be between the compressor and the exhaust manifold. These shields are a poor design and often break off due to metal fatigue. If the shield is missing, the compressor will overheat and kick off. Then it cools back down, restarts, overheats, stops, and so on.
