May be coincidence. I installed 540 rears awhile back. When done, I noticed that the pedal felt soft. Didn't go to the floor but certainly went much further than before and was very mushy.

Like you, I bled and bled and bled. No improvement. How could this be?

Replaced the master cylinder. No improvement. Replaced the brake booster (behind the MC).

Bingo.

Pedal has been rock hard and near the top of it's travel ever since.

Can't explain - just sharing my experience for you to ponder.
