I recently overhauled my AC system after the rupture disk on my accum/dryer blew at the end of last summer. I replaced the accum/dryer and removed most lines while the system was empty, replaced the o-rings and checked for signs of pluggage. The dryers are a routine replacement part (they only have capacity for a very small amount of water before they become plugged). I recharged the system with R-12 and it works great - 45-50F out the vents. So it turned out that a plugged dryer was the cause of my over-pressure. That thing should get replaced every 2-3 years (as long as there is R-12 available).

BTW - I paid $35 a can for the freon - ouch....
