I recently replaced the catalytic converter, muffler and all related hardware on my M5. I also looked for the black exhaust tips because mine were a little rough. It turns out that they are NLA (No Longer Available). Identical tips are available in chrome, however, but I couldn't stand to put any chrome on my car.

I cleaned up the old tips and was going to re-finish them with high-temperature black paint, but I decided to leave them off the car for several reasons. For one thing, when I pulled the old tips off the muffler, there was a lot of corrosion around where the tips were friction fitted to the muffler pipes. One pipe even broke off while I was removing the tip due to the corrosion. It appeared that the tips were holding moisture and debris around the muffler pipe, thus accelerating corrosion. Too, the car doesn't look bad without the tips.

Regards
