Greg

Thanks for the info. I am led to believe that the cams can be fitted without mods to the head so I would say caps are not required but I need this confirming before I progress.

Also I am some what surprised that timing marks are not provided on the Schrick cams especially the price they charge.

Ian

Douglas,

What lash caps? I have a Schrick 272 for the intake side that I am in the process of degreeing. Why would lash caps be required with the non-reground a Schrick cam? I'm familiar with lash caps, but they are usually only necessary with reground billets that are undersized, therefore, addiiton of the cap to fill the void at the valve stem tip. Schrick starts with fresh cold chilled billets that are not undersized. Am I missing something?

Also, a word of caution about installing the Schrick cams. Although not necessary to remove the head (just the cam cover and front upper covers), installing them is a bear. Unfortunately, Schrick does not provide timing marks on the cams like the OEM factory ones. As a result, you need to dial the cams in with a degree wheel and dial guage to measure No. 1 cylinder lobe lift. The tricky part is that you need to lay the cams into the engine at their approximate orientation. But, if you're off as little as 10-15 degrees, as you rotate the engine to measure the lift and re-orient the cams, its very easy to "kiss" the valves with the piston top. Use caution.

Regards,
Greg K

Ian,

I believe the stock U.S. cam is 260 duration and 9.? lift.

The Shrick 272 cam on a U.S. motor is not an easy install unless you have the head apart.

Unless you can cut the top of the valve stem, you will need to install valve lash caps. Also, the caps will have to ground to fit within the range of shims available for this engine.

I have seen the 272 cam that Jon Kofod has available and it is in new condition. He didn't mention it in his post but I believe he has the lash caps also.

FYI - the cam sells for $950.00 USD and the caps are another $140.00 USD. I bought these new just before I found out about Mr. Kofod's cam being available. Never fails, right?

You can e-mail me directly if you have any questions about the installation of this cam in a U.S. S38 motor.

Good Luck!

Douglas
