I own an E28 M5 but have installed one only in my buddies E34 525 turbo. The install is pretty straightforward and the results were finicky at first but through time we dialed it up good (he had the A/F LED meter and the fine tune box also). It basically interrupts the stock air flow meters signal to the DME and through electronics, modifies the new mass sensors output to emulate the stock. Because the original "flapper" could of never of responded as fast as the mass type, I don't think we can take full advantage of this newer type of meter. But it doesn't have the airflow restriction of the flapper nor the inertia of the mechanical flapper thus the improved idle qualities (ever looked at the stock flapper with the cover removed and the car running?). A side benefit I see is the ability to "look" at the air / fuel ratio with this unit. There is no real fail-safe with our stock system against over lean conditions but at least with this, it would serve as a type of "idiot" light.Brian
