Being a current owner of a '72 Bavaria (Father bought it new!) and having previously owned a '72 2002, I'll try to help.

Parts: Parts for the 2002 will be cheaper. They're more readily available becuase there's so many more people who want and have them. Body and interior trim is also cheaper. These aren't enormous differences though, if you're worried about price, look for a E30 three series, or an E28 five series for similar, but (much) cheaper to maintain cars...

Driving: The 2002 is obviously the more tossable around town car. Though the (my) sedan is no slouch. I personally enjoy the Senior Six much more than I did the 2002. They're much more comfortable, and infintely better on the highway, ESPECIALLY in rainy/windy weather. I hit just under 130mph in my bone-stock, never been rebuild Bavaria last year, you'll never touch that with a stock 2002, unless it's a turbo!

Now you choose, if you want to go places on the highway, with other people, like me, the 2500 would be the best bet. I've never driven a 2500, supposedly those are INCREDIBLY smooth engines, turbine-like even.

Overall, both are very similar, the sedans are more refined and comfortable. Much like comparing a new 328i with a 740i. Both are brilliant machines, it's just a matter of what you want to do with them.

Hope I've helped.
Phil.

Hi everyone, I'm new to this board and want to pick some wisdom from you E3 folks, basically, my question is simple but complicated: I am interested in purchasing either a 2002 or am looking at a 1969 2500 next week. How are parts availability and prices for the 2500 compared to the 2002? Are these cars much more difficult to work on and apprehend? What is the basic difference between them- except obvious body style? thanks so much for any help you can give me!!!--
