I'll have to agree with the observations...

I've owned 16 2002's from wild to stock automatics. The 2002 is a wonderful, tossable daily driver. I am looking at two possibilities as we speak...

However, the saloon is a really sophisticated vehicle. For the price, I find the Bavaria series to be a more refined daily driver. The 3.0SI that I've been advertising may be too nice to get rid of just yet. I would rather drive it right now then my '99 323i (the 323i has not been out of the garage since the SI came home).

The 3.0SI is pretty enjoyable. This is a big, comfortable sedan and that might be its appeal. If I had to drive 20 miles I'd take the SI/Bavaria. But I only commute about 5 miles so the 2002 is fine.

Dollar-for-dollar, you will get more car in better shape in the big saloon over the 2002. The parts are cheaper and easier to obtain for the 2002. The support for the 2002 is also a bit stronger.

Just my $0.02 worth...
