Tim: I recently bought a '73 2002 Targa, the 4th that I have owned over the last 38 years. Before I found this little gem, I seriously considered a '69-'76 E3 (2500, 2800, 3.0, and Bavaria). Talking to all the mechanics that I have gotten to know over the years, they, EACH AND EVERY ONE recoiled when I talked about buying one of these cars. Further questioning did not yield any specifics as to what they had against these cars, but they were unanimous in they're distain for them, starting with parts availabiliy and going to difficulty of repair. That said, I was still not fully dissuadedfrom my desire to someday get one. aybe you should go about this the way I probably will end up doing: Get one of each. I really belive that I won't be happy until I do that. I'm sure that this has'nt helped you much in your decision making process, but it's my two-cents woth anyway. Good luck.
