I’m helping sort out a friend’s E3 with a 3.5litre and Motronic EFI. One problem is the tendency for the engine to cut out when cornering hard on a low tank. As this was originally a carburettor car, we thought it may be fuel surge causing the engine to cut out.

One option include:

. fit a low pressure pump and an anti-swirl pot before the EFI pump (an external Bosch pump from a K-Jetronic system). This, however, will take space in the trunk.
. use the tank from a 3.0Si, if it has internal baffling
. set up an internal fuel pump and fit a baffle in the fuel tank.

Any views?
