Hand Brake retrofit on Bavarias (archive)

Hi,
Me and a buddy each have a E3, his is a 74 Bavaria and mine is a 76 3.0. Both car's handbrakes have problems due to the base of the hand brake bending and now breaking away. The hand brake handle was replaced but the problem is the metal 'ears' welded to the frame.

This seems to be a very common problem but I can't find any info on it.

Can someone assit? Thanks in advance.
