I think I'm going about this in the wrong way but here goes: I think most people buy a newer car so that they don't have to drive their older cars all the time or in inclement weather. I've got the opposite situation. I've bought a relatively newer M3 which I do not want to drive during the winter. I am looking for a car to drive daily and during the winter. I've located a very nice early '70s BMW. I'm guessing that the body panels were not galvanized back then. Should I just throw out the idea of driving an early BMW as a driver? Is rust too much of a factor. The car I've located is very nice and very cool. I just don't want to destroy it. Thanks.

Agree you are going about this the wrong way. These old classics will absolutely dissolve on salty, wintry roads. My 02 was driven by previous owners in winter on roads without salt at all and has some serious rust problems. Buy a rice car for winter.
