I've driven and ridden in many BMWs.

I have to agree that the E36 will feel much more modern and sporty that the E3.

However, I own both an E23 735i and an E3 3.0si and have been amazed at how much they feel the same. Even to the extent that I've forgotten to declutch the 3.0si as the 7 series is auto and sometimes its easy to forget which one your driving.
