If getting the calipers OFF was difficult, I suggest you FORGET doing the rebuild. I mean we're talking what 2 bolts? usually the toughest part is the hex screw that holds the rotor on, because the PO bunged it up, and out it back.

>1. Where can you purchase the rebuild kits?

Just about anywhere, including the dealer. Cost is under $30.

>2. If I have already pulled apart the 2 >sections, does it really mean I'm cooked?

Yes. You're all done. It's nearly impossible to get them back together and not have them leak. I know people who've done it, but Haynes specifically says, "DO NOT SEPARATE CALIPERS!"

Suggest you put them back together, and try to use them as cores. Rebuilt calipers can be ourchased for around $80 each.

Dust and water. What's leaking is the sealing ring. You have a bore, with a rubber sealing ring. To rebuild you pop out the piston, clean up the piston and bore a bit. Replace the sealing ring. Bathe everything in brake fluid (make sure your hands are clean). Put the dust shiled on the piston, and then press the piston in the bore. there'a a spring that holds the dust shield on.

BUT! This is all moot if you've separated the caliper halves.
