Not flame bait, honest. I want to know. Why are some BMWs the big whoopty-doodle while little attention is paid to the Bavaria?

anyone here with "Road & Track on BMW Cars 1966-1974" will know that the write up/articles on the Bavaria, 2800, 3.0S say that the engine is the best of it's time, Foreign or American., incredible cruising car, I'd much rather take a Bavaria class BMW on a long road trip than a 2002 and I've owned 8 2002's, great little cars but the Bavaria has unmatched comfort. I've been tempted many times on buying one, called on a '73 3.0S a couple of years ago, A Texas car that was for sale in Ohio and there is a '74 Bavaria for sale on consignment at a service shop about 15 minutes from me, in the front showroom, Amazongreen/tan, automatic..solid body, good paint, nice interior and the shop owner says that it mainly needs balljoints, besides a tuneup. The owner, a lady that drove it daily from Rochester, N.Y. to Buffalo, N.Y., an hour trip each way, has moved to New York and did not take the car, she's asking around $2k., it is all original, hubcaps are in nice shape, no structural rustthrough.
