Not flame bait, honest. I want to know. Why are some BMWs the big whoopty-doodle while little attention is paid to the Bavaria?

First, let me say that I'm a 2002 owner, so I have no personal interest in this debate, etc. And also, I really like Bavarias, so anything negative I say must be read in that context.

I think E3s are overlooked because they are old sedans and were therefore not preserved and/or restored like E9s and 2002s. They were considered somewhat disposable and simply junked when they wore out or became too expensive to fix. I think the same is true of older Benz and Jag sedans. I don't know about you folks, but I see an awful lot of really raggy pre-'87 Jag sedans and pre-1990 Benz sedans around Boston, where I live. So the E3 is overlooked because there are comparatively few in decent condition, and the really trashed ones aren't worth the cost of restoration, because lots of people figure "why restore a decrepit Bavaria when I can buy a nice, very similar looking, E12 or E28 for the same (or lower) total cost?" I addition, a lot of casual car enthusiasts have never even heard of a Bavaria or E3. So I think these are some of the contributing factors.
