button in = rear defroster OFF

button out = rear defroster ON

So it should stay IN aqnd only be OUT when you need the defroster, otherwise you'll fry up the defroster wires soon enough...

When the thing is out there's a light inside that lights up (you can replace the bulb by unscrewing the orange button part).
