rattle in the engine (archive)

guys , i need some help. every time i turn off my engine i hear , like a banging, rattle. could it be the timming chain(318is,91) . to me it sounds it is. shall i try to adjust it myself? are there any parameters that i should know about . any help would very much appreciate. Adrian
