Yes I believe it is possible to surpass the i's HP without changing pistons. Ignition systems do very little on our cars since the stock ignition is already good. I didn't change my pistons because '88 Super ETA engines came with 'i' domed pistons, there was no need to change over, but I was planning to anyway for even more HP.
