: Who came up with the term Bimmer? I think it sounds dumb. I have always called my car a Beemer, and noone has ever thought I was talking about a motorcycle. Hell, we are talking about the name of the manufacturer anyway. They're all Beemers!

I have to disagreee. People know you are talking about your car when you say "beamer" because they don't know any better. This does not make it right. It grew out of that disscusting 80's yuppie BMW ownership thing. We are not talking about the name of the manufacturer, we are talking about the slang term of the manufacturer's product. Nobody refers to BMW AG as Beemer or Bimmer. There is a very fine magazine called "Bimmer" and numerous BMW CCA chapters use "Bimmer" in their moniker. To my knowledge, not one uses Beemer. Believe it or not, Beemer - bike and Bimmer - car is the official position of AG. But hey, freedom of speech, call it a Buick if you want to, but be prepared to be corrected by those who are more knowledgeable of the fine points. Do you know what colors the roundel is? There is an official position on this, too.
