OBC won't work right (archive)

The OBC on my '90 325is only shows temp, stop watch and time. The rest of the functions never set(fuel mileage, average speed, etc.) It has been this way since I bought the car last July. Any thoughts as to what is wrong, what I can do to fix it? It's no big deal but I keep thinking maybe I'm doing something wrong and they might really work. I've followed the owner's manual instructions to the letter but no luck.
