: : Hmmm.... finer points, Mertz, the south. All very fine points. However, out of three responses, only one answered the question. Bimmer is pronounced Beemer. It is a German nickname. Sure I'll buy that. Now, why would these same people, and I have to assume that the nicknames are originating from the same geological location, choose to give there 2 wheeled marvel the same nickname, but spell it differently?

: : I must say this is all very confusing to a genetically challenged, sud'ern boy. Please won't you all educate me on the finer points of life?

: : : Who came up with the term Bimmer? I think it sounds dumb. I have always called my car a Beemer, and noone has ever thought I was talking about a motorcycle. Hell, we are talking about the name of the manufacturer anyway. They're all Beemers!

: Why would anyone ponder this "dumb" question? I call my 2 BMW's everything but bimmer or Beemer, depending on how they are behaving. Often times it's "bitch" preceeded by various expletives.
