Why can't it shine?: Window trim on 325e (archive)

I have a 1985 325e and the chrome around the windows will not shine, no matter how much I polish. Im now know that the chrome is not chrome, it is some type of cheap sticker. Is there anyway I can replace the window trim with real chrome or metal? also, the rubber is starting to rot, is there anywhere i can buy fiberglass parts to go around the bumpers?
