acceleration surge (archive)

Hey All,
I just bought an '86 325 that was somewhat neglected with 120,000 miles. During acceleration it has a slight surging problem. I've replaced the plugs, cleaned dist. cap and rotor, and had the valves adjusted. None of this had an effect on the surging. Any ideas on what could be causing this?
