: anyone have a suggestion for tire pressures for 225/50-15 V700s on a really stiff E30?

: I'm taking my E30 out for it's maiden voyage on friday and I have at an utter loss as to where to set the tire pressures.

Autocross or road course? If Autoctoss, I can recount to you my very limited experience, as I just autocrossed my 89 325is for the first time since I bought it (it was fantastic!). Kumho V700 205-55-14 at 35 psi all around, asphalt surface, 40-50 F.

Worked well for me, sidewall flex was about right as indicated by wear of shoe polish markers on the shoulders. Conventional wisdom says higher pressure=more grip for Kumhos (as opposed to BFG R1s, which are reported to run better at lower pressures due to flex-induced negative camber caused by the asymmetric sidewall construction). However, if you go too high, wear (& temperature profile -- bad!) will not be even.

With that said, most of my auto-x experience has been on good street tires -- slightly more flexible sidewall -- at 40-45 psi with good results. I run 40 psi all around on 205-50-15 (4% smaller than stock) Bridgestone RE-71s now on the street. Great grip, no squeal...

Hope this helps.
Mike
