First off, I'd suggest trying to find the December 1998 issue of Car & Driver magazine. They tested four cabrios-the Saab, the Volvo, the Mercedes CLK and the BMW. This test had the E46 ('92?-'99) old style cabrio and it still came out on top-Saab 4th, 3rd Volvo. I have an 89 iC and I must admit tires make all the difference. As for the cars you're considering, my folks used to have a Saab-tons of problems and their values nose-dive quickly, plus the design is I don't know how many years old. As for the Volvo, I think it's over-priced and the handling is a little sloppy. The BMW has all the safety of these cars, a new style, is incredibly fun to drive (please, get a stick, they are soooooo much more fun to drive!), and they are greatly engineered cars that hold their value and appeal. Good luck and if you can, get the larger engine! (328iC) It's worth it!
