'89 E30 325i Touring - Shhhhss noise when in drive (archive)

Hi
Just got this car and its lovely. Its an auto gearbox with leather and all the electric stuff. A nice drive.
One thing though. I'm concerned about a continous shhhhsss noise when in motion. Does anyone know if this is typical for this car or is something on its way out in the final drive area.
