As you know, an engine looses compression with time, in fact, it even sucks less air with time. Some people will recalibrate the airflow meter to a looser setting to allow more fuel per volume of air. Increasing the pressure will also yeld more gaz. Theorically the O2 sensor makes the engine run at stochiometric all the time (except when cold). But lots of cars experience a lean condition when accelerating, because the computer doesn’t have enough time to react. More fuel will reduce these lean condition moments. And because more horsepower is achieved when the engine is richer than 14:1 fuel/air ratio, it yelds better drivability.
