I recently worked on a '78 733i in which the fuel pressure regulator failed, and we measured 70 psi at the rail.

I see your point though. I suppose it could fail and let all the pressure flow back to the tank.

The best thing to do before buying a new fuel pressure regualtor, is to measure the fuel pressure at the rail with a fuel pressure gauge.

: Lloyd,
: Are your sure about that? The FPR is at the end of the fuel rail and it has a return hose to the fuel tank. Therefore I would think that if it failed open, or if there were no FPR, the pressure would be near zero.
