I have a Euro 320i. Recently I did the timing belt and waterpump. As the car was running very hot I removed the thermostat to allow it to run no higher than 1/2.When warm it idles perfectly at 700 rpm. However cold starting requires throttle applicationorthe engine will stall. Is there a sensor in the thermostat which controls cold starting. Normally the engine on cold starts idles at 1500 then drops,it no longer does this. What should I do. If i replace the thermostat it will run very hot(over3/4) as i have tried this.
