Need help removing 5-Spd Tranny from block 87 325I (archive)

I need some help removing my 5-spd tranny out of my 87 325I. I have all the bolts removed from the tranny and have been able to pull it out from the block about 1-2 inches but I can't get it to come off any further. I have removed the driveshaft and exhaust. Can someone please provide some insight or helpful ideas as to how to seperate the tranny from the block ? I am currently using a jack to hold the tranny up. I thought I could push the jack back and the tranny would come off, no such luck.
