... I've had one for five years and there's no sign of rust of mine yet (BTW: I live about 100 yards from the ocean). I've heard that some folks will paint an Ansa muffler -- paying special attention to the seams -- with high-temp engine paint prior to installation. It won't help prevent rusting from the inside out, but may bolster the muffler's ability to withstand the elements. Food for thought. Good luck.
