'83 320i to '84 318i engine swap (archive)

Can it be done without modification. There were a few archives pertaining to the job, but, no follow up to see how it went.

I noticed that between the too engines there are some subtle differences. Fuel pressure, compression pressure, etc. Will these affect how the computer runs? Or will I have to swap the computer from the '83 to the '84 to run correctly?
