Head gasket trouble (archive)

Does anyone have any experience replacing the head gasket in a 1990 325ic? I have all the symptoms....mysteriously disappearing coolant....milky look to the oil....but thankfully no smoke or vapor at present. I want to take care of it before I do any major damage.

Any idea what's involved or how much it will cost?
