It takes about 8 hours to replace the head gasket. The gasket kit runs around 160-200 bucks, and don't forget the headbolts. Here are a couple of thing that I would replace too: Timing belt, timing idle wheel, water pump (if you have more that 100,000 miles), Cap and rotor. If you think that you know what you are doing then get a Bentley manual to help you along. The list of special tools are minimual, so if you have a place that rents tools, you can get them for the day. I would recomend running syntech oil now that you have a new head gasket. Oh yes, make sure that the head didn't warp out on you either
