Radio Static Spray (archive)

To get rid of the static in the radio, I've been told to spray contact cleaner in the shaft behind the volume knob and rotate it a bit. It hasn't worked. I am using "Color TV Tuner Cleaner" from Radio Shack. Is that the right stuff?
