: Recently got a 87 325is. Has the stock alloys, and
: has Michelin MXV4 tires in 195-60-14. They have lots
: of tread, but I am not pleased with the handling. I
: feel like they are limiting the car, they screech at
: anything and break loose in corners, yet the suspension
: feels tight.

: What should I replace them with? I do NOT want to
: change the wheels, but I do want to move up to
: 205-60-14. I don't need a race tire, and I am somewhat
: concerned about wear life. Dunlop D60A2 JLBs are very
: cheap and seem to get good ratings. Will they stick
: better than my Michelins do? Other suggestions?
: thanks.

Give Sumitomo HT100's a try. They are summer tires. They actually do ok in the rain but are pretty bad in the snow. They do quite well on dry pavement too. They are really cheap too. Go to tire rack and check it out. That's my writeup with all the typos. I now have them on all 4 wheels. I get about 40000 miles out of them and drive pretty hard, mostly hard cornering. Make sure you inflate them to about 80% of what is listed on the tread. These say 44 psi max so I put in 38 minimum for dry and about 40 when weather gets wet to cut out hydroplaning. My tires never squeel even when they break loose. This is probably half your problem with the Michelins. Go with the 80% rule and you will be fine.
