Another cheap upgrade would be to swap the 323i intake manifold for one from a 325i.
It has shorter runners but bigger volume, which translate in a bit less torque down low but more power and better cylinder filling. Also the throttle body is larger: more airflow. I believe that the 323i engine is a very good engine because of its hybride characteristics: its stroke is longer than a 325i but not as long as an Eta engine. It has torque and high rev capability. The bore is smaller by 4mm compared to a 325i. It translates into lighter pistons. That engine can be revved without any problem. I like to rev mine at drivers schools and it feels strong and tight, even after 17 years of abuse. My next upgrade could be to use that crank with 84mm pistons and a flowed i head. It would translates into a 2.6 litre engine that loves to rev. Of course I would keep the L-Jetronic, mainly because there is no idle valve to fool with and also because I can tune advance by simply rotating the distributor. Not to forget that I can use any big block L-Jetronic airflow meter, like the one from a 530i or 528i. This also ease the breathing.Do not forget that Euro early E30s are lighter by more than 350 pounds, which also translates into higher performances.
