Make sure that the manifold ports are well matched to the head. They are of a different shape. The AFM comes from an E12 530i or 528i, up to 1982.
My car has a 284 Hartge cam. 277 would be milder, and 288 very fun too but with less torque.
Ask Eric Kerman about cams. I am pretty sure he has a few cams sitting oin his shelves.
