if you left it open all the way all the time, your engine would always rev really high. it's opened up by the engine sucking air into the engine, and it meters how much air is put into the engine, so it can mix the proper amount of gas.if you're looking for performance gains, I've heard of loosening the spring for the flap, but never tried this
: Any ideas as to what would happen if I fixed something into the mass air meter of my 325iS to make the flap remain fully open at all times? Also, what is it that makes it open? The suction from the throttlebody opening?
