: The car is a 1984 318i. I took the car to get smoged in Santa monica, it passed the test at 2500, but not at idle. The idle control valve is bad because in order for the car to idle properly the intake hose to the ICV must be pinched. Any help would be greatly appriciated. Do fuel additives reduce emmisions? Don't tell me I need an new ICV, I know that already. Just need a cheap quick fix.

: Gracias, SChonz

Try using shims, make sure there are no vaccumn leaks, also try taking you ICM apart and check to see if there are hairline cracks in it. You might try to solder the connections again. Even if you try the gas additives, without a steady idle it still won't pass.
