: I went to my usual speed shop, where the manager told me that now that the E30s are dirt cheap, lots of kids Pizza delivery boys type) with no money buy them for the Badge on the hood and then discover how expensive it is to modify one compared to modifying a Civic or other Rice but the sport compact crowd steal each others. They will steal a friend’s car to sell the wheels to another friend living in another city. This is a very different crowd preying on each other. And now they are byuing Bimmers, and are invading a very honest and open message board. Have you noticed how the tone has changed for the past year? Most people are gentle, but some are...
: Aren’t we in deep shit.
I'd have snipped more, but it is all relevant. I have been in love with E30s since they were still on the showroom floor, growing up in the 80's. To be fair, even then a lot of people were "Buying them for the badge" as nouveau riche scumbags plunked junk bond money down for our Holy Roundel. How the marque became the undeserved symbol of all that is wrong with capitalism probably started here.
Still there were the enthusiasts, 2002s and 320s then, and e30s now, tweaking and restoring as the dotcom dollars buy new M3s (after some geek or day trader reads Car and Driver's ten best issue).
There's always gonna be spoiled rich boys-and hardcore enthusiasts. As for the rice boys, 25 years ago they would have been painting wolf murals on vans, while the enthusiasts were autocrossing the aforementioned 2002s. I think you can usually see or hear the difference from a mile away (ever notice none of these bozos give you the approving E30 nod?)
Our place in the big picture is safe for now-as for being in deep shit, it's been a long time coming I am afraid....
