The tach in my recently acquired '89 325ic works every so often for a few seconds and then just sits there on zero. When it does move, so does the MPG needle. The previous owner said that about six months ago, he had an electronics tech at work replace the batteries on the SI board, and that's when he believes the problem started. Additionally, most of the time, all the SI lights stay on after you start the car, which I read means the batteries on the SI board are dead. When the tach has popped up for a few seconds, I've noticed it's when the SI lights aren't lit.
Any suggestions? Should I replace the batteries again or just buy another board and hope the old one is in good enough condition to get some money back on the core charge?
