I had an '86 325 that I bought new. If I recall correctly, the es model has rear headrest, a bigger front airdam, beefed up suspension, mesh or multispoked wheels, all options like OBC, leather, 3 spoke steering wheel, maybe a moonroof but that might not have been available until '87.
I'm pretty sure they have the same engine - a torquey, low reving rock solid straight 6. Yes, by today's standards, the car is somewhat underpowered and fairly high maintenance, but the driving characteristics and reliability of these cars has created legions of loyal drivers. You can get one in great shape only about 1/2 used up w/ 110k miles for $5000 - a bargain if you compare it to any other car available today new or used with comparable luxury, performance and driveability.

: Does anyone know what the differences are between a 1986 325 and 325es. I was under the impression that the 325es had an EPA engine which wasn't as strong as in the 325. But having driven a few 325s I'm led to believe otherwise it seems a little underpowered and has a really low redline (about 4500). Can anyone also tell be how I would be able to tell a 325 from a 325es from a visual inspection.
