MY fingers aren't long enough to reach into the plug recess far enough, and sticking a screwdriver into the hole is a good way to bung up the threads when TDC is achived: I use a soft piece of wire. A compression guage is the best if you have one. I have a sparkplug that I've busted all the Ceramic out of and welded in a short piece of tubing on the top that accepts a rubber tube.( I use this attached to my compressor to hold valves shut when changing springs or valve seals on other engines..you can't do that on a baby six so far as I can tell). Another way is to open the oil filler on the valve cover and look at the cam Vs. rocker arms. Every other revolution of the crank the cam will be in the "overlap" position. I.E. pointing straight up between the rockers, holding both of the valves open slightly. If the cam is equidistant between the rockers, and the belt hasn't slipped, this will be TDC,but 360 deg. out from "firing cylinder #1".(it will be the firing and compression stroke tdc for cylinder #6. At least it finds you the TDC mark if there is one (it's (0) on my 320/6). I've never been concerned w/ TDC on my Eta...it just keeps running, and running and...
