: : how can achieve TDC without taking the timing cover out?

: It depends what you're trying to find TDC for. If you just need a close TDC reference point, you can achieve this by taking out number one spark plug, then slide your finger into the hole (you do know how to do that? lol) and slowly rotate the engine with a socket wrench until you feel the compression stroke push your finger out. Then take a thin screwdriver and insert it in the spark plug hole until it's resting on top of the piston. Rotate the engine slowly until the the piston is at its highest point. If your engine has a timing mark used for setting ignition timing 0 degrees should also be lined up at the pointer.

removing all 6 plugs will make the engine much easier to turn over by hand while doing this operation.
