HARD STARTING / BAD IDLE .... HELP!!! (archive)

My 87 325 has been giving me this problem for about 2 weeks now. it takes a numerous amount of cranking to get it to start then it won't stay alive, I have to keep my foot on the pedal and rev at like 2500.
This is NOT my 4door 325i. This is my 2door 325(eta) with i motor but eta electronics. Please help
I've check fuel and spark and that seems fine and the car is Great on the highway but won't start for sh*t and stay alive on its own. I think its a sensor or ICV or ICM or but anyone Know what it most likely is???
